GNU Hyperbole

2025-05-31 Sat - I finally spent some time learning about GNU Hyperbole and I love it. I've known about it for a while and knew that it basically had a bunch of "buttons" that you can activate and that it would work in any buffer. I had always wanted a way to execute arbitrary elisp from code comments in personal projects and in my org notes. I finally spent time watching some videos from recent Emacs Conferences and decided I would go through the demo as well.

My favourite feature turned out to be HyWiki and how it highlights links without any special syntax. I have references to colleagues in a lot of my notes and converting names to links is always low priority. I like the idea of it being links because it also highlights names in the body and I can quickly scan to see who was part of some meeting or discussion.

With HyWiki all I have to do is write names without spaces and if there is a page by that name in the wiki directory (I set it to my org directory), it gets highlighted. Writing FrodoBaggins instead of Frodo Baggins is an easy adjustment to make and my muscle memory only needed a day to adapt.

I spent most of the weekend reorganizing my org directory to match my new workflow and removing some stale notes.
